Small Things, Great Love

Mother Teresa once said “not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.'' For the type A person, you may look at this mantra as a leveling up challenge and say ‘scuse me Momma Teresa, but hell yeah I can do GREAT things- watch me”. Touché, after all, greatness is relative. Perhaps I was here, in this mindset, for quite a bit of time. And you know where it left me? Overwhelmed, and in a constant state of frustration. Oh the overwhelm, it feels so comfy cozy, until you realize that you're just one person, not a machine, and it’s quite close to impossible to pour from an empty cup. I honestly believe that this is what is leading to the burnout epidemic that’s plaguing our generation, but can you blame us?

From the moment we wake up each day, our days are full of choices to be made. It’s said that the average person makes 35,000 choices per day. 35K! Honey, that’s a whole lot of choices, and a whole lot of pressure to do ‘em right depending on your drive. But that’s the thing, when we act with love, when we act with kindness- there is no such thing as “right” or “wrong”, there just “is”. When we do the minuscule and even the mundane with love in our hearts- we are dancing in grace, and that’s when the real blessings start to pour down on us (even if we can’t see them). When we do the small things with great love, the great things just come naturally sans the overwhelm and frustration- because we’re doing what we’re all called to do- just being. Anything beyond that, complicates the simplicity that is our birthright.

A friend once told me that positivity begets positivity, and it’s the truth. 35,000 GREAT choices is pretty high stakes, but if we shift the perspective to 35,000 choices made with love in your heart, you’re going to attract more ooey-gooey good things than you know. Next time you’re debating on holding that door open for the person behind you in Starbucks, do it, and do it with love in your heart. Next time you see a friend is distressed over the same thing they were upset about last week, just listen, and do it with love in your heart. The next time someone tries to project their opinions onto you, acknowledge it knowing their thoughts have everything to do with them and nothing to do with you, and acknowledge it with love in your heart. You’ll soon find that it’s peaceful here in the “small things”, and that in fact they’re not small things at all.

How will you manifest doing small things with great love? Love and light to you!

Xx, Sab
